Core UX Principles
Predictability
Use patterns that your users are familiar with. If new patterns need to be created, be mindful of the platform you are designing for and utilize platform-specific interactions.
Clarity
Don’t make your users guess. Often, in our quest for a “clean” UI, we obfuscate key information behind vague icons or bury them under a menu.
Consistency
Keep conventions to a minimum. Develop a comprehensive design system to unify and streamline your workflow via shared component libraries.
Leadership Style
I'm Not Always Right
A disagreement with a team member or peer is an opportunity to listen, then come to a consensus using logical arguments based in human-centered design. I've found this method to generally produce better results than either of us could have come up with individually.
Communication
A no-brainer, communication is critical. In regard to the work, communication with cross-functional peers enables us to work as a team; putting our effort behind a common goal. As a manager it's equally important to understand the needs of my team. What are their career goals? Where are the gaps in their experience? How can I best support them?
I Trust My Team
My team should be capable of executing their responsibilities without micromanaging. If that isn't the case then performance issues need to be addressed individually.
